FAQ

To our coffees

1.

Are the coffees sustainable?

For all of our coffees, we work personally, hand in hand, with highly committed and demanding farmers who deliver the best quality. Coffee and the land on which it grows is their livelihood. They are the first to actively work to preserve and protect it.

Farmers also want to live a good life. Financial incentives are therefore one of the biggest drivers of sustainability. We pay them extremely well for their extraordinary work - on average €3.68 more than the Fair Trade level.

All of our coffees are always fresh, seasonally adjusted and can be traced back to their origin.

We use fully recyclable monoplastic for our packaging.

2.

Are all coffees from direct trade?

All of our coffees are direct trade, which means that we work directly with each farm, visit them, get to know them and always understand how much money they receive for their coffee. We either trade directly with the farms or buy from completely transparent importers who share our philosophy and pay the farms fairly and transparently.

3.

Are the coffees organic?

We visit our farms, get to know the farmers and build a personal, close trading relationship with them. What becomes clear on every visit is that the farmers are deeply connected to their land - it is their livelihood. They are the first to actively work to preserve and protect it.

Their sustainability measures include the avoidance of synthetic pesticides/fertilizers, biodiversity, more efficient use of water, protection of pristine forests and wildlife, fair pay, ethical working conditions and ultimately coffee quality.

It is very impressive to see how farmers find creative ways with simple means to comply with these measures.

Some of our coffees carry the official organic seal . However, many of our farms are small operations that cannot afford such certification, which ultimately does not make them any less "organic" in most cases.

4.

Are the coffees fair trade?

Direct relationships with the farms allow us to understand how much they actually receive for their coffee and ensure that they are paid fairly and adequately.

Fair trade means payment of twice the market price of coffee.

On average (across our range) we pay €3.68 more than fair trade level.

5.

What is the SCA score and what does it indicate?

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has developed a rating system for green coffee, which primarily helps to distinguish normal from specialty coffee.

The scoring is structured as follows:

80 – 84.99 points represent a very good green coffee

85 – 89.99 points for an excellent green coffee and

90 – 100 points for an exceptional green coffee

Coffees with a score above 90 are extremely rare and are usually produced in so-called nanolots (nano-compartments of a farm).

6.

How are the coffees roasted?

We always roast our coffees fresh, slowly and gently.

Our coffees tend to be lighter roasted to fully exploit their aromatic potential.

We add a little more body to our espresso roasts so they can be perfectly prepared on any type of espresso machine.

Our filter roasts, on the other hand, highlight the fine, complex flavor nuances and develop best with hand-brewed preparation methods.

To our Origin Coffee Stories Way.

1.

How are the packaging made?

Our individual packaging designs are created on our trips to the origin of each coffee. There we take photos of impressive motifs that reflect the origin or our journey there.

The video of the creation can be viewed on Instagram or our other social media.

2.

Who is the greeting on the postcard from?

The message on the postcard is a personal greeting from our founder Marius, who reviews and summarizes the time on the farms and with the farmers.

He writes the message directly on the farm to convey a real snapshot of the trip.

The video can be viewed on Instagram or our other social media channels.

3.

What makes Origin Coffee Stories special?

With our packaging, the postcard, our travel content, the presentation of the farmers and their stories, we want to create a connection between the origin of the product and the consumption of the product.

We believe and hope that if we create more awareness of the origin of the product, the enjoyment will be much more intense and the coffee trade will continue to develop in the right direction. We see appreciation as so very important.

4.

Can I learn more about the farms and their stories?

On our social media, especially on our Instagram account, we share all content about our travels, the farms, the work on site and everything related.
