We rely on direct trade so that we can see and value the people behind the product and pay them fairly. However, this philosophy goes much further than just euros and dollars. Complete sustainability begins with economic sustainability.
What does direct trade mean?
Direct trade means that roasters work directly with coffee farms without any middlemen.
This enables a symbiotic partnership, guarantees transparency and allows fair payment.
Many farms are not profitable
This was a shocking realization when we entered the coffee industry. Many farms struggle to survive every year and are often not profitable.
For us, it is essential to accept higher purchase prices if we do not want to do without coffee in the long term. We want to raise awareness and disclose the consequences if we do not do this - both for the farmers and for all of us in the long term.
Economic sustainability is the basis for ecological sustainability
If farms are not profitable, they will sooner or later go out of business. That is the worst-case scenario. We are convinced that ecological sustainability must begin with economic sustainability.
If the farmer is paid fairly and does not live in constant fear for his existence, an environment is created in which he can afford the "luxury" of engaging in ecological developments.
It's easy to expect such things from our world, but that's neither fair nor realistic. We should first create the bare minimum for the farms and then we can approach them with demands.

How we create the basis for economic sustainability through direct trade
We visit each of our partners personally and maintain a relationship on equal terms. This is based on the following pillars:
Transparent & adequate payment:
We know exactly how much money the farm actually receives for each green coffee. We discuss these amounts with the farmers and make sure that they are actually fair . On average, we pay €3.68 (60%) more than the fair trade price.
Personal connection & exchange:
We are in close contact with each other about the green coffees and their growing conditions. This way we can ensure that our ideas and those of the farms are always compatible.
Planning security:
By building personal relationships and constant communication, we create mutual planning security in the long term.
